Scientific Information is considered to be a fundamental resource in the Scientific,
Technological and Economic Development of a country. Realizing importance of the potential role that
Information plays in the Socioeconomic Development of the country, the Government established Pakistan National Scientific and Technical Documentation Centre (PANSDOC) with the UNESCO
Technical Assistance as early as in 1957 at Karachi under the Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) to provide the
Scientific Community with such support services as the Procurement of Documents,
Compilation of Bibliographies, Abstracting and Indexing and Technical Translations.
In the year 1974, an expanded project namely Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) was build around the nucleus of PANSDOC and was transferred from PCSIR Karachi to Pakistan Science Foundation Islamabad. Presently Pakistan Scientific and
Technological Information Centre, PASTIC is functioning as a unit of the Pakistan Science Foundation, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Science & Technology. PASTIC is the premier organization in the field S&T
Information serving thousands of Researchers. After transfer to Pakistan Science Foundation its scopes and facilities were expanded.
The PASTIC National Centre (Headquarter) is located at Islamabad and housed in its own building situated in the Quaid-i-Azam University Campus, Islamabad. It has five Sub-Centers located at Karachi, Lahore, Fasilabad,
Peshawar and Quetta. PASTIC is currently offering wide ranging
facilities such as supply of Scientific Documents, Current Awareness
Service, Publication of Abstracting & Indexing Journals, Information
Transfer Service, Patent Information, Environmental Information,
Bibliographic Service, Data Processing on Computers, Production of Union
Catalogues and Directories, National Science Reference Library,
Reprographic Services ranging from Mimeographing, Photocopying.
Microfilming to printing and linkage with International Information
Networks. PASTIC is dedicated to fulfill the ever-growing needs of
information in the field of Science, Engineering and Technology for
Research and Development activities in the country.
