PASTIC-PSF and Ariel Media Services join Hands for Promotion of Science and Technology. 21st Sep 2011

Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC), Pakistan Science Foundation is the national S&T Information agency catering to the information needs of scientists, researchers, engineers, R&D workers etc. Information is provided in various forms such as copies of research papers, literature surveys, according S&T documentaries, publications, seminars, etc. according to the needs of the users.

PASTIC signed an Agreement with MS/ Ariel Media Services Pvt. Ltd, Islamabad on 21st September, 2011 in Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad regarding airing of PASTIC S&T documentaries on various TV Channels. PASTIC had produced 9 documentaries on local issues and had acquired about 60 foreign documentaries under one of its development project entitled “Science Awareness through TV Channels” funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

As coverage of science and technology is limited in Pakistani media, the main objective behind the Agreement is to create awareness in the students and general masses about the happenings in science worldwide as well as within the country using Television as the media.

Seminar on National Information Security at PSF on 06-07 June 2011.

Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) in collaboration with Riphah International University organized 2-days National Information Security Seminar here on 6-7 June, 2011.

The main objective of the seminar was to create awareness about current cyber incidents (hacking) and cyber crimes management by developing public-private partnership to cope with these cyber security challenges.

The Renowned scientist Dr. Samar Mubarik Mund was the Chief Guest at the Occasion. While addressing to the audience he emphasized on the seriousness of the issue that may lead to major economic and social damages. He appreciated PASTIC and PSF for providing a common forum to develop public private partnership to discuss cyber security issues in Pakistan.

Dr.Manzoor H. Soomro, Chairman Pakistan Foundation in his address highlighted that there is a dire need to develop common mechanisms and networks to prevent, mitigate and react to large-scale cyber attacks and cyber and to identify what key assets, resources and functions are necessary to ensure the continuity of vital ICT services.

The event was attended by Executives and Information Security personals. The First Seminar held a year back highly sensitized the public and private sector in terms of importance and implementation of cyber security in Pakistan. This series of seminar is first of its kind and proved beneficial in spawning response of concerned authorities.

Technology Exhibition at LCCI, Lahore on May 31st, 2011.

Technology Exhibition 2011; Food & Agriculture Sectors was jointly organized by Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre (PASTIC), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Institute of Research Promotion (IRP) on Wednesday May 31st, 2011. Federal Minister for Science & Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali inaugurated the exhibition.

The main objectives of the exhibition was to provide a market place to the industrialist and researchers across the country to showcase their S&T innovations, Technologies, products, services and solutions in food and agriculture sectors. The occasion was also helpful to promote S&T partnership for global sustainable development.

More than thirty innovative indigenous technologies, technological solutions, products and services from R&D organizations and industry were exhibited. The main contributors from industry included Marhaba Industries, Qarshi Industries, Hilal foods, Agri Biotech Industry, Kol Krafts, Hoest, Life Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, Guard Agricultural Research and Services, Lahore and Agri Biotech/ ECO Foods. Whereas Ayub Agricultural Research Institute , Faisalabad, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore, Govt. College University, Faisalabad, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, NIBGE Faisalabad, NIFA, Peshawar, PCSIR, Lahore, PARAS Lahore, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore, University of Sargodha and Veterinary Research Institute, Lahore.

PASTIC organized a stall at Science & Technology exhibition in PCSIR, Karachi on 9th May 2011.

Ministry of Science & Technology(MOST) organized one day Science & Technology exhibition at PCSIR Institute of Electronics Engineering(IIEE), Karachi in collaboration with Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry(FPCCI) on 09th May, 2011. PASTIC Sub Centre, Karachi organized its services stall. Mr. Irfan Nadeem Federal Secretary (MOST) was guest of honour and Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, President FPCCI was the chief guest.

PASTIC organized a stall at Book Expo in QAU.

PASTIC organized its Services Stall during "Book Exhibition" organized by Department of History and DRSM Library (QAU) from 14-15 March 2011 at Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad.









PASTIC Services Awareness Seminar at CECOSE Engineering University Peshawar on January 8, 2011.

As a regular activity of PASTIC Sub Centre Peshawar "PASTIC awareness Seminars" was organized at CECOSE Engineering University Peshawar dated 08th January 2011 to create awareness of anticipatory information services among the researchers/students and also to provide services as per their needs within their premises.

Deputy Director PASTIC delivered a thorough presentation with the title "PASTIC and its S&T information Services" to enlighten the young Engineers about the PASTIC S&T information services including

a) How to get access to their appropriate bibliographic literature search by the keywords
b) How to reward the document supply service at highly subsidized rates.
c) PASTIC publications.

At the end of the presentation a very effective question answer session was held where the participants including the faculty members ask number of questions regarding PASTIC services. All the participants and cherished the efforts of PASTIC for the researchers.

Beside this 29 students registered themselves as a free member of PASTIC.

Symposium by PASTIC and IRP at RCCI.

PASTIC and IRP under their collaborative University Industry Partnership Programme organized second symposium of the series of symposia on "Building Effective Coordination between R&D and Industries for Enhancing Innovations, Competitiveness and Productivity of Indigenous Technologies" on January 4, 2011 at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
