Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre (PASTIC), Pakistan Science Foundation, Ministry of Science & Technology, in collaboration with Institute of Research Promotion (IRP), Energy Update and Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) organized a one day conference on Power Generation & Exhibition on Innovative Energy Solutions at Marriott Hotel Karachi on 2nd February, 2012. H. E Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of Germany in Karachi was the chief guest and Mr. Shaigan Shareef Malik, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro, Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad and Mian Abrar Hussain, President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) were guest of honour. The event is being organized under a University- Industry Partnership Programme (UIP) which was launched last year by PASTIC & IRP. The Power Generation conference and exhibition was part of this programme and could help in developing R&D based solutions for energy problems of Pakistan. The main objectives of Exhibition are to promote developed solutions as well as to keep up to date with the latest innovative energy solutions and to provide a common forum for interaction between industrialists and researchers that will lead to industrial need base R&D in the country.
H. E Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of Germany said that electric power is the lifeblood of an economy and shortage of electricity are having an adverse impact on export and there no fundamental changes in the scenario in the last couple of years and it is high time to dedicate all attention towards this issue. Mr. Shaigan Shareef Malik, Additional Secretary, MoST, said Karachi to Gwader coastline has enormous potential for generating wind energy, he said energy is a vital input for economic and social development and is therefore, of paramount concern for all. Dr. Mazoor H. Soomro, Chairman, PSF said shed light on the role of research and Development in exploring and testing new, viable and scientific option of power generation for overcoming the burgeoning power crises of the country. Sindh Electric Power Minister Shazia Marri said that provincial Government was in process to frame the first ever “energy policy” to transform Sindh into a power utilization surplus province.
Prof. Dr. Manzoor Soomro, Chairman, (PSF) said that patents are an important tool in technological development and help in innovative activity. He briefly described the activities of PSF and the new initiatives of PSF and PASTIC. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Director HEJ / ICCBS spoke about quality research, and appreciated the efforts of PASTIC in organizing the event. A Welcome address was given by Dr. Mussharaf of HEJ, while introductory remarks were given by Ms. Nageen Ainuddin, Director, PASTIC. Mr. Faisal Mobeen from Shaan Foods also spoke about the company and its IP policy. Mr. Toseef Haider gave an introduction about the patents and IPR.

Chairman Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) Zubair Motiwala,, CEO AEDB Arif Allauddin, Chairman IPP Advisory Council Yousuf Abdullah, Dr. Kazi Kamal, Chairman SITE Association, Chairman IEEEP Karachi Chapter Engr.
